Popular economy in the city? The possibility of another form of economy, an alternative to the capitalist one, can be found in the Unidades Familiares that live, resisting day by day, on the slopes of the José Carlos Mariátegui human settlement in the district of San Juan de Lurigancho, Lima, Peru. In this small book, the authors present the situation of two family units, "U6A" and "Nueva generación". How were they born, how are they organised, how do they relate to social institutions outside their environment, what are their dreams for the future? These were the questions that formed the basis of the research, which ended up trying to expose the way in which an alternative economy, a popular economy, materialises in these areas. It is curious that the work was carried out in the human settlement named after one of the first Peruvian intellectuals who, thinking from his context, proposed alternatives to capitalism. José Carlos Mariátegui.
