Trawling with door nets practiced by the artisanal fleet targeting the seven-barb shrimp (Xiphopenaeus kroyeri) on the north-central coast of Santa Catarina is considered efficient in catching the target species. However, it has low selectivity and incidentally catches a large contingent of demersal and benthic fauna, grouped under the name of accompanying fauna, part of which is made up of the Sciaenidae family, which includes teleost fish of great commercial importance. Based on this finding, the aim of this study was to assess the quality and quantity of fish species from the Sciaenidae family present in the accompanying fauna in three traditional seven-barb shrimp fishing areas.
