Over the last few decades, continued population growth resulted in an uncontrolled environmental degradation and decline in production. This population - environment connection has been a source of worldwide debate beginning from the time of Malthus and there is still much disagreement on the significance of population growth and natural resource constraints. This book examined the impact of the increasing population pressure on the natural environment and on the very survival of the local people. It showed that Local peasants respond to these problems through a combination of on-farm and off-farm related activities. In addition to peasants' response, the government also responds through formulating and implementing policies and strategies to effect at the local level. This book, therefore, by using first hand information and theories dealing with the relationship between population, the environment and agriculture help shed some light for a better understanding of the population-resources relationship dynamics and should be especially useful to students, policy makers, and researchers in this field of study.
