Es psiquiatra, psicoterapeuta y doctora en Medicina. Trabaja en el Complexo Hospitalario Universitario A Coruña (CHUAC). Es presidenta de la Asociación EMDR España. Desde hace años imparte formación a otros especialistas, es entrenadora acreditada de terapia EMDR y da cursos sobre esta metodología terapéutica desde su página web Instituto Imaya. Es también tutora de doctorado en la Universidade da Coruña (UDC) y profesora invitada en el máster de Psicoterapia con EMDR de la Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (UNED). Es autora de Lo bueno de tener un mal día (Planeta, 2020), Las cicatrices no duelen (Planeta, 2021) --ambos traducidos a varias lenguas--. También de No soy yo (2017) y de algunos libros especializados, y ha dirigido varios proyectos de investigación sobre estos temas.
