The purpose of this paper is to present the phenomenon of possession and exorcism in the Judeo-Christian tradition throughout history, from Jewish antiquity to the present day. Demonic possession and the practice of exorcism have been studied from the Ancient World to the modern day. The aim is to present a historiographical synthesis of these phenomena in the religious field, as well as a critical analysis based on the studies of biblical scholars such as Karl Kertelge, Antônio Lazarini Neto, Irineu José Rabuske and Luigi Schiavo, and historians such as Jaccques Le Goff and Jean Delumeau.
