When climate scientist Min looks up from the raft she's been floating on for weeks in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, she must be hallucinating, for Min hasn't seen trees with green leaves for so long. Running out of food and rainwater to drink, Min has been waiting to die. But just in case this miracle vision of liveable land is actually real, she rows toward it. Soon to join Min is Iris, a fearful therapist in a beautiful boat stolen from her dead client as the tsunami wiped out Vancouver. And next to arrive is Jasper, a construction worker from northern Alberta who makes Iris nervous. Civilization was collapsing as they fled. Will it be safe to stay here on this island? And who else might be living here? Eventually there will be twelve survivors on this mysterious island, each with different ideas about what constitutes fairness in this new after world. They begin to rebuild. And to heal. Some flourish, some flounder, and there's danger around every corner. Written in the minimalist style of Omar El Akkad's What Strange Paradise with the emotional depth of Ann Napolitano's Hello Beautiful, Post Civ is ultimately about hope - examining what might be possible beyond our current flawed corporate systems and patriarchal hierarchies.
