Many young men, women and even the elderly are addicted to Cannabis intake abuse despite its predictable toxicological consequences. Cannabis sativa is common prescribed by general practitioners to patients of PTSD. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTDS) is the manifestation of symptoms following episodes of traumatic experiences such as fear, horror and helplessness in an individual, which unlike normal experiences are more difficult for the brain to process. During episodes of PTDS, the amygdale sends impulses to the hypothalamus which signals the sympathetic branch of the autonomic nervous system, endocrine system and the neocortex, which is involved in memory processing. Since the amygdale is programed to remember sensations such as smell and sound, such sensations associated with traumatic experience will be recalled and reinforced, when similar stimuli are perceived, causing the stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system to prepare the body for danger. Neuroendocrine dysregulation associated with PTDS include abnormal regulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, which co-ordinates the neuroendocrine stress response systems in the brain.
