Mzwabantu Mpiyane possui um grau de MSW da Universidade de Fort Hare e Diploma em Teologia. O seu interesse de investigação é a pobreza, o desenvolvimento comunitário e a colocação no terreno para trabalhadores sociais estudantes. Actualmente trabalha como docente, ensinando trabalho prático de nível 2 em trabalhos de grupo e supervisionando o nível de mestrado em investigação.
