The central theme of this study is that child Mortality is essentially a problem of the poor, marginalized, vulnerable and uneducated members of the society rather than the problem of the rich, sophisticated, and educated members of the society. The higher the socio-economic status of women the lower their chances of experiencing child Mortality and the lower the socio-economic status of women the higher their chances of experiencing child Mortality.This study was done because child Mortality is a serious developmental issue today in Nigeria. Some recommendations were made at the end of the study which includes the need for the state government, NGO's, CBO's, international donor agencies etc to make concerted efforts to improve the socio-economic status of women in the state.

Dr. Felix Ugochukwu Amadi holds a bachelor's and Master's degree in Sociology from the University of Lagos and Doctor of Philosophy in Sociology of Development from the Imo State University Owerri. He is a senior lecturer at Alvan Ikoku Federal University of Education Owerri. He has published widely in many journals.
