Poverty with its multi-faceted nature is widespread
in Zeghe peninsula. With a different farming system,
Zeghe peninsula is found to host large proportion of
people who fall below poverty line. Some
household members are compelled to adopt precarious
measures like migration. Paradoxically, Zeghe
peninsula is endowed with various natural resource
endowments. Cultivation of coffee constitute the
major source of income for households of the
peninsula. Households also augment their income from
sale of fruits and firewood, fishing from lake Tana,
petty trading, and bee keeping. Livestock production
is uncommon with the exception of sheep fattening and
breeding and chicken rearing. This piece of work make
an investigation on the magnitude, determinants and
manifestations of poverty in the area and came up
with an interesting findings.
