Spain has a unique experience of peaceful, evolutionary transition from dictatorship to parliamentary democracy, positive changes in the most important spheres of social development in recent decades. Between 1996 and 2004, two parties - the Popular Party (the ruling party) and the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (the opposition party) - played a key role in the country. During the period of governing of "the people's party" in Spain there were great changes: the economic potential increased, the standard of living of the population improved, the international prestige of the country was strengthened. Dmitry Rogovitsky's research aims to identify the main parameters of consensus and disagreement between the PP and the PSOE and to show their influence on the country's domestic and foreign policies. Previously, this topic had not been the subject of a special study in either national or Spanish historiography.
