In this book, we first stress the main issues that will be raised in future energy systems, in particular in the electricity sector. In this context, we introduce the Power-to-Gas concept, its purpose and the different processes that are considered for its implementation. The only viable way for the implementation of the Power-to-Gas concept in the medium term is analyzed in detail. We expose the main alternatives for the various stages of the process. Attention will be paid to thermodynamic and energetic aspects. Furthermore, the major issues arising in practice from the different units are pointed out and several process integrations are described. The analysis will focus on mass and energy flows. We will distinguish continuous and intermittent operation of the Power-to-Gas facility and the various problems that may arise in these cases. A detailed analysis of the conversion efficiency of the process for different configurations will also be exposed. Finally, we will introduce some alternatives to the Power-to-Gas concept.
