This book offers an essential guide to managing the most heatedly debated topics of practical interest in anesthesia and intensive care. It reviews the state of the art in issues concerning both intensive care medicine and anesthesia, such as antibiotic therapy in multidrug resistance infection, acute hepatic failure, weaning, ECMO, difficult airway in pediatric patients, goal directed fluid therapy, preoperative anesthesia evaluation and delirium.
Written by leading experts and including updated references, it provides a comprehensive, easy-to-follow guide to anesthesia and intensive care. The book clearly explains complex topics, offering practicing clinicians valuable insights into the latest recommendations and evidence in the field while, at the same time, making it a vital resource for students new to the fields of anesthesia and intensive care.
Professor Davide Chiumello, MD, is Chief of the Department of Anesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine at ASST Santi Paolo e Carlo Hospital, Milan, Italy. Prof. Chiumello's research has largely focused on understanding the pathological and clinical aspects of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS), in particular: respiratory physiology, esophageal pressure, lung recruitment, lung imaging, ventilator-induced lung injury, prone position, controlled and assisted mechanical ventilation, and non-invasive ventilation. He was the Editor-in-Chief of Minerva Anestesiologica (the official journal of the Società Italiana di Analgesia, Anestesia e Terapia Intensiva) until 2015, and currently serves on the editorial board of Critical Care Medicine (the official journal of the Society of Critical Care Medicine).
