Born in Jackson, Mississippi, Genté grew up in a single parented home. At a very young age she stepped in to care like a mother for her younger brother while her mother suffered from a ten year crack cocaine addiction. Here is where the seed of prayer took root in her life and began to flourish. Needless to say, Genté has never stopped praying. Today, she is strong in body as well as spirit. Genté is happily married to DJ and is a proud mother of Chloé and Nylá. Passionately, she encourages young girls and women to value themselves regardless of their past and to take an active role in their lives by transforming their pain into power. She is also the author of Chloé's Curls, a story that inspires multi-ethnic girls to celebrate their hair and heritage.
