The aim of the present study was to develop lozenges of Fexofenadine hydrochloride by using Jaggery as sweetener. Fexofenadine hydrochloride is an antihistamine with selective peripheral H1-receptor antagonist activity. It is used in the treatment of hay fever and similar allergy symptoms. Fexofenadine hydrochloride is a poor water-soluble drug with a bitter taste. Because of sore throat conditions, patients may experience difficulty in swallowing a tablet. Therefore, lozenge would serve as an ideal dosage form for patients which require quick relief. In order to assist patients during traveling (where there will be unavailability of water), and to the patients who feel difficulty in swallowing, there is a necessity for the development of lozenge drug delivery systems. These dosage forms are designed in such a way that they dissolve in patient's mouth upon contact with saliva over a period of time without the aid of water. As the drug starts dissolving in the mouth and absorptionof drug starts before it reaches the stomach providing quick onset of action.
