If the future, your future, is predestined what's the good of knowing it? You can't change it, you're stuck with it. What do you do? Brian Munro has vivid, short visions of his future that come without warning. He thinks of them as slivers of information without context and calls them 'flashes'. He experiences a moment in his future from his own perspective: sees what he will see, hears what he will hear, feels the heat or cold or rain the day will have, and senses the emotions he will feel. Very seldom does he learn the when or why of the event. He's never told anyone about his flashes, they are the central secret of his life. Keeping his secret means he can never be completely honest with anyone.
