The relationship of persistent proteinuria to the prevalence of hypertension will be determined and this will help clinician in better management of patients with features suggestive of CKD.. The prevalence of persistent proteinuria is so small that routine urinary screening may not be seen as being cost effective; however, the cost of managing CKD of which persistent proteinuria is an early marker is more burdensome and could be fatal. In view of this I recommend that urinary screening in school children should be part of the School Health Programme in order to ensure early treatment and abortion of disease progression. 2. Blood pressure with the appropriate cuff should be routinely done in primary school children for early detection and management of hypertension. This could be done at school entry, graduation and whenever they present at health facilities.
