This study was aimed at developing an econometric model suitable for rating P&I Clubs' risk premia. The purpose was to evolve a compact model that could be used for the majority of types of risk insured. The authors were inspired by the absence of an established rating model as well as from the essentially empirical and experience-based traditional rating methods which provided them with an area for further research. Several rating factors were used as independent variables to their model and were checked for their statistical significance. The authors performed a thorough investigation for the period 2000 - 2015 and came up with findings that illustrated that a structural change had taken place for P&I Clubs' risk premia since the commencement of the global financial crisis (2008). In this direction, the miscellaneous points of view of eminent members of the P&I Clubs and the market experts proved decisive for the overview of the marine insurance market.
