However, no empirical study has been done so far on the qualities and uses of Tigrinya dictionaries. Moreover, very little academic literature exists on the area of dictionary evaluation. Traditional ways of dictionary criticism' approaches are no longer adequate. This monograph, therefore, offers new directions and approaches of dictionary evaluation that involves intended dictionary users, authors and their dictionaries. It is divided into five chapters: (i) Introductory & methodology concepts, (ii) theoretical & practical lexicography, (iii) Dictionary evaluation, (iv) assessing dictionary use & dictionary compilation process, and (v) Conclusions & recommendations. The book will be of interest to: lexicographers, dictionary compilers, dictionary editors, dictionary users & other interested readers and researchers on the field of lexicography.

Tsegay Muhur Gidey studied general linguistics for his BA and Applied Linguistics for his MA at Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. Currently, the author is a lecturer in the Department of foreign languages at Mekelle University. In addition to teaching, he is also involving in conducting research in diverse areas of applied linguistics.
