Dictionaries are very essential in our everyday professional life. They provide us with valuable lexical information and are crucial references across all disciplines. Thus, upholding of their standard and use appears to be paramount important in order to suit the needs of intended users. However, no empirical study has been done so far on the qualities and uses of Tigrinya dictionaries. Moreover, very little academic literature exists on the area of dictionary evaluation. Traditional ways of dictionary criticism' approaches are no longer adequate. This monograph, therefore, offers new directions and approaches of dictionary evaluation that involves intended dictionary users, authors and their dictionaries. It is divided into five chapters: (i) Introductory & methodology concepts, (ii) theoretical & practical lexicography, (iii) Dictionary evaluation, (iv) assessing dictionary use & dictionary compilation process, and (v) Conclusions & recommendations. The book will be of interest to: lexicographers, dictionary compilers, dictionary editors, dictionary users & other interested readers and researchers on the field of lexicography.
