This study arose from the question of how Problem Solving is used as a methodology for teaching maths in the early years of primary education in a public school in Janaúba-MG. Its overall objective was to analyse the use of Problem Solving as a methodology for teaching mathematics in the early years of primary school. The specific objectives were to investigate teachers' understanding of problem-solving concepts as a mathematical trend; to see how teachers use problem-solving as a teaching method in the early years of primary school; and to identify the effects of problem-solving as a teaching method on student development. The research was carried out with the participation of four 5th grade elementary school teachers from a public school in the municipality of Janaúba-MG. The methodology used was qualitative with an exploratory objective, and the technical procedures were bibliographical research and field research with data collection and tabulation.
