This work analyzes the pedagogical tendency Problem Solving in the understanding of the concept of triangle similarity. Its main objective is to analyze the potentiality of this tendency in the study of triangle similarity. For this, a qualitative-descriptive field research was carried out with 24 students from the 9th grade A, in the morning shift of the E.E.F.M School in the State of Maranhão, a school in the state school system of Fortaleza/CE. In this work the introduction is initially presented, with the justification that led to the theme of the work, followed by the general and specific objectives, also with the structural organization of the monograph. Then, it presents the importance of mathematics, the difficulties for the teaching of mathematics and learning for the formation of the citizen. Next, it shows some mathematical currents, then the current problem solving is placed, then it is seen geometry, accompanied by the similarity of triangles. Then the field research is exposed, with a brief commentary of the school and then the research itself, with methodology, characterization of the sample, research and conclusion. Finally, the final considerations are placed.
