This book presents selected contributions to the Symposium of Aeronautical and Aerospace Processes, Materials and Industrial Applications of the XXV International Materials Research Congress (IMRC).
Each chapter addresses scientific principles behind processing and production of materials for aerospace/aeronautical applications. The chapter deals with microstructural characterization including composites materials and metals. The second chapter deals with corrosion in aerospace components is a large and expensive problema for aerospace industry. Finally, the last chapter covers modeling and simulation of different processes to evaluate and optimize the forming process. This book is meant to be useful to academics and professionals.
Prof. Dr. Patricia Zambrano-Robledo is a Senior Research Professor in the Research and Innovation Center in Aeronautical Engineering of Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon, Mexico. She is faculty member of the Materials Science Doctorate program and Aeronautical Doctorate Program. Her research areas of interest include the processing and characterization of metal- and ceramic-matrix composites (MMCs and CMCs), as well as of superalloys. She has published around 50 papers in international journals and about 60 articles in international conferences. She is the author or coauthor of about 6 book chapters. Dr. Zambrano Robledo is the organizer of Women in Science in Monterrey NL, and Infant Spring Course. She has led more than 20 linked projects with industries like AIRBUS and MD Helicopters. She is a member of Council Advisory of the Aerospace Industry in Mexico. Currently she is a Research Director of Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon. Prof. Dr. Armando Salinas-Rodriguez is currently Senior Research Professor and Director of the Center for Research and Advanced Studies of the National Polytechnic Institute in Mexico, Saltillo Campus (CINVESTAV-Saltillo). Previously, he held a position as a Research Scientist at the Chalk River Laboratories of AECL Research in Canada. During his carrier he has cultivated a number of research lines, all of them focused on the development of specific microstructures to obtain properties which increase the added value of components fabricated through conventional and novel processing routes. Areas of interest include: structural materials use for the construction of nuclear reactor cores (Zr-alloys); metallic biomaterials used in the manufacture of orthopedic components (Co-based alloys and Ni-Ti shape memory alloys; Zn and Al-Zn-Si coated high formability steels for use in the automotive industry; advanced high strength steels for use in the automotive industry; high permeability, low hysteresis losses electrical steels;phosphate coatings (Mn, Zn, etc.) for use in the automotive and petrochemical industries. His academic and scientific productivity includes, to date, 44 papers published in ISI-indexed scientific journals, 40 papers published in other type of scientific journals, 60 papers published in conference proceedings and 1 patent. In addition he has been co-editor of 6 MRS Symposium Proceeding's books, and has written 2 book chapters. Prof. Dr. Facundo Almeraya Calderon is scientific researcher in corrosion group, working in areas such as corrosion electrochemistry, monitoring corrosion, materials engineering and failure analysis since 1993, and is technology consultant for Conacyt in Mexico. He has been a NACE member since 1993. He has a B.Sc. in Metallurgy Engineering from UAM, a M.Sc. in Metallurgy from UNAM and a Ph.D. in Materials Science from Advanced Materials Research Center, S.C. México. He has 23 years of experience in corrosion and corrosion control. NACE Mexico Section Vice Chairman 2001-2003. He served as President of the Mexican Society of Electrochemistry from 2013 to 2015.
