Against the backdrop of books discussing the use of bio-based materials in bioplastic applications, this book presents an in depth research in the utilization of meat and bone meal (MBM) rendered proteinaceous animal co-product in the processing of bioplastics using scalable industrial processing routes.Chapter 2 covers the thermoplastic processing of MBM based bioplastics using glycerol as the plasticizer and their subsequent properties. In Chapter 3, as a strategy to increase water resistance of MBM, studies on the calendering of bio-based composites of MBM with minor fractions of LLDPE are…mehr

In Chapter 3, as a strategy to increase water resistance of MBM, studies on the calendering of bio-based composites of MBM with minor fractions of LLDPE are discussed. Chapter 4 concludes by examining the chemistry to enhance properties of MBM bioplastics while retaining biodegradability and thermoformability through the use of resins from controlled reaction of anhydrides with glycerol. Based on follow up studies, the engineering strategies discussed in the book are not limited to MBM but generally applicable to other plant and animal proteinaceous materials.
