Chapter 4 concludes by examining the chemistry to enhance properties of MBM bioplastics while retaining biodegradability and thermoformability through the use of resins from controlled reaction of anhydrides with glycerol. Based on follow up studies, the engineering strategies discussed in the book are not limited to MBM but generally applicable to other plant and animal proteinaceous materials.

Dr.Sam Lukubira obtained his Ph.D in chemical engineering from Clemson University. His experience is in processing-structure property relationships of polymeric materials including bioplastics and composites. His Bachelor of science is in Industrial chemistry and he is currently a post doctorate research fellow at the Clemson University, USA.
