Yam (Dioscoreasp) is an important food crop for food security in Benin. Its production has been increasing in recent years in the arrondissement of Ouèssè: commune of Savalou. The production of yams due not only to strong demographic pressure but also to strong demand is putting increasing pressure on the environment in the commune. The methodological approach used is based on data collection, data processing and analysis of the results. The results reveal that the socio-economic impact related to the marketing of yams and their derivatives in the Ouèssè district is significant. Indeed, yam production (70%) is a proven source of income for producers (45%). In addition, it causes environmental degradation with the consequent regression of plant cover and wildlife.
