The tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill.) is one of the most important vegetable crops in the world. This production continues to increase every year by several million tons, regardless of the stocks from food crops. However, here in Mukedi and surrounding villages, we have noticed a total neglect of the tomato crop. It is an important source of vitamins and an important cash crop for small and medium-scale commercial farmers. The consumption of tomato fruits contributes to a healthy and balanced diet. The fruit is rich in minerals, vitamins, essential amino acids, sugars and dietary fiber. Tomatoes contain many vitamins B and C, iron and phosphorus. Tomatoes can be eaten fresh in salads or cooked in sauces, soups or in meat or fish dishes. They can be made into puree, juice and ketchup. We ask our people in Kwilu to grow tomatoes.
