This scientific research is justified by the author's desire to reflect on the impacts and challenges in professional education, specifically in accounting technician courses, from 1997 to 2004, in the city of Lages - SC. During this period, I taught accounting technician students at a state public school, following the decentralization of vocational education from regular to vocational education. From then on, I became aware of and concerned about the possible social impacts of this decentralization. The research is based on critical historical epistemology and sought to study, reflect on and historically verify the impacts and challenges of these changes in Lages (SC), from 1997 to 2004.
