The main aim of this study was to estimate profitability of lettuce cultivation and to find out the problems and constraints of its production and marketing. The main aim of this study was to estimate profitability of lettuce cultivation and to find out the problems and constraints of its production and marketing. In total of 25 farmers from some selected area of Dhaka district were randomly selected for this study. The average cultivable land was 183.26 decimal and average lettuces cultivable land was 0.52 decimal. Average survey plot for this study was 6.07 decimal per lettuce cultivators. For lettuce cultivation the average production cost was 144111 taka per hector. Lettuce cultivators produce 10887 quantities per hector of lettuce. Total return of lettuce cultivation was 350822 taka per hector and their gross margin was 206711. The benefit cost ratio (BCR) was 1.43. Lack of training, unavailability of seed, unavailability of capital, disease infestation, stolen rate and the problem of marketing of lettuce were the major problem of lettuce cultivation. Good seed, proper knowledge provided by the agriculturists, good marketing system of lettuce cultivation, making lettuce popular among the farmers, provide training on lettuce cultivation, subsidies or the proper investment provided by the government was recommended by the farmers.

Mahfuza Afroj was born on 25 December 1990 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. She is daughter of Md. Shiraz Uddin Miah and Akter Jahan. She completed BBA (Agribusiness) from Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University. She was awarded university gold medal for outstanding result. Now she is a lecturer of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Bangladesh.
