Oral interview has been used to assist making decisions on the proficiency of foreign students applying to American universities since 1980s. Regardless of the advances made on the use of technology in assessing language and computerizing this assessment, not much has been done to contribute to validity of oral interview. The current research has been undertaken to verify the use of short or long prompts in order to improve the validity of this assessment tool by assisting the candidate's resources to enhance communicative effectiveness.
