This study analyzes the influence of the first language of native English speakers (NES) over the learning of Thai as a second language. The focus was on the pronunciation of initial and final stop consonants, and comparing the Thai pronunciation of NES who have studied Thai less than one year with those studying over two years. This study emphasizes the importance of knowledge of the phonological rules in Thai, as knowledge of these rules will facilitate learning of Thai by NES.
