The high school technical courses at the IFMG - Ouro Preto Campus receive students mostly from schools in the region that falls within what has been described as the Iron Quadrangle. Primary education, which is the responsibility of the municipalities, does not have good quality indicators, as is well known. In the case of IFMG's Ouro Preto campus, in the first grade there is an effort to make up for students' deficiencies in order to level out the classes and prepare them to continue the course, since the demands in the following grades are greater. As the quality of primary education worsens, the difficulties of technical courses increase, and teachers of technical-technological subjects are obliged to take part in the effort. From this need came the proposal to research a teaching method capable of tackling the teaching gap by reinforcing the methodology currently applied, but shifting the focus of the process to the student. And along the way we came across Problem-Based Learning - PBL, which proved to be a method perfectly adaptable to the reality of technical courses due to the balance it promotes between theory and practice.
