This paper is a proposal to use a hybrid wind/solar distributed energy generation system in commercial establishments on Ilha do Mel, located on the coast of the state of Paraná in southern Brazil. The work proposes the use of renewable energy sources as an alternative on an island, so the methodology adopted is different when compared to similar installations in rural or urban environments. Information such as accessibility, environmental issues and population variability were taken into account, as they influenced the calculations of the project carried out to meet the specific needs of the location. The possibility of distributed energy generation in Brazil came about after the National Electric Energy Agency's (ANEEL) Normative Resolution No. 482 in 2012, which regulated microgeneration and minigeneration of energy, allowing these systems access to the local distributor network, as well as instituting the energy compensation system.
