This book examines the landscape of investigative journalism training, practice, opportunities, and challenges among media professionals in Africa, with a specific focus on those in Nigeria. Drawing on theoretical frameworks such as innovation diffusion theory and behaviourism theory, the study employs mixed methods (surveys and interviews) and a multistage sampling approach to gather insights from participants. The research reveals that journalists in Africa receive training in investigative journalism during their tertiary education and engage in investigative practices thereafter. The findings also highlighted a positive link between training levels and the extent of investigative journalism practiced. Also, the study identifies internal and external obstacles to investigative journalism, including issues like limited time, insufficient funding, low salaries, and poor working conditions. To enhance the field, the researchers recommended increased support for advanced training and practical application of investigative journalism, along with the development of strategies to overcome existing challenges.
