Prostate Cancer: A New Approach to Treatment and Healing gives readers new access to leading-edge medical information about prostate cancer, its diagnosis and treatment, how to cope with this disease, and how to heal from it. The purpose of Prostate Cancer is to help men who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer make better treatment decisions. We all know that informed patients make better healthcare choices, which is why this book focuses on giving readers the information they need to have smart conversations with their doctors and ask all the right questions. Written by a doctor-patient team, Prostate Cancer takes a "patient first" approach to delivering a manageable amount of information in each chapter, so readers don't feel overwhelmed. This book presents state-of-the-art scientific data written in simple, everyday English in an easy-to-follow format -- free from medical jargon or "doctor speak." If readers can understand the sports section of their local newspaper, they can read and understand this book. Essentially, this is a picture book for adults -- with "just the right mix" of pictures to paragraphs. Because the text was written in support of all the images, flow charts, tables, graphs, and diagrams -- readers can capture 80% of the information presented in this book simply by looking at the pictures and reading the captions. Each chapter contains a patient story; a doctor story; and a "Toolbox" section where readers can go to better understand their medical numbers, medical options, and next steps. The back of the book includes a glossary, index, "Spouses Section" (because no one goes through a cancer diagnosis alone), and an in-depth "Digging Deeper" section for readers who want to know more about prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment.
