Network security is a challenging problem in Internet. Quiet a number of security solutions are currently available to protect network resources in Internet. Intrusion Detection System(IDS), one of the security solutions analyzes the data from different system and network resources to check for any security breaches and alerts the system administrator. Intrusion Response System(IRS) automatically responds to the security breaches. A tight coupling of IDS and IRS is needed to stop the intrusions. An Intrusion Prevention System(IPS) has the ability to prevent the security breaches. Thus IDS/IRS/IPS plays a major role in Network security. The KDD Cup intrusion detection dataset is a public repository to promote the research works in the fields of IDS/IRS/IPS. In this book, a protocol based analysis is performed on KDD cup intrusion detection dataset which derives the relevance of features through SPSS tool and mines for classification patterns using TANAGRA and DTREG. Thus the outcome of analysis contributes for the development of efficient IDS/IRS/IPS.
