They are written in Truman Capote style to give the reader a sensational, personal view like a novel. "Proudly We Hail" Is the author's true experience of the Vietnam War on the Home Front. Vietnam Magazine featured Joy Wellman's article about "Huntington Women In Support Of Our Men In Vietnam", because the group was responsible for the first memorial in the United States dedicated June 8, 1972. The magazine published it in an issue honoring women who served in Vietnam. The Huntington, Long Island women's group stayed together from 1966 to 1973 in spite of differing political opinions, ages, and life styles. Love, romance, humor, and tragedy marched with them through the turbulent era.
