The aim of my work is to show that the field of tension between closeness and distance is an important part of social work. This aspect is particularly important in helping relationships. The right distance to the professional role, but also to the clients, is essential for effective professional action. The right balance of closeness and distance is essential for the success of a professional helping relationship and serves the professional's own protection. If there is an imbalance of closeness and distance, the helper can quickly become overburdened and overwhelmed. Without the right balance of closeness and distance, professional social work is hardly possible. A good middle way is necessary to create a boundary between the person and the professional role. In my work, it is extremely important to me to show opportunities for professionals that can promote a successful approach to the closeness-distance problem. Among many other skills, I have decided to explain reflexive competence and authenticity in more detail in my literature research.
