Sample 'seminal' essays by Freud, Jung and Lacan appear in a collection that is otherwise authored by women. From Freud's contemporaries through new French feminisms to postmodernism and post-feminism, a spectrum of female theorists affords comparison and cross-reference. Specific debates are indicated and some unexpected alignments are revealed on the unresolved issue of what 'woman' is.
