This book establishes the psychological characterization of first semester students of the psychology career of the Universidad Técnica del Norte, based on personality traits, their emotional state in terms of anxiety and depression, in addition, the correlation between personality traits and academic performance is analyzed. The study is governed by a non-experimental, quantitative and correlational design; the PAI personality inventory and Hamilton's assessment scales have been used for the evaluation of anxiety and depression. The results obtained establish that the predominant traits in terms of the psychological characterization of the study group are: anxiety high presence, depression high presence, suicide low presence, trauma low presence, alcohol low presence and stress low high presence, in addition it was concluded that there is no correlation between personality traits and academic performance. It is important to highlight that the emotional state in terms of anxiety and depression are within normal limits.
