This research paper analyses the treatment of women in the domestic sphere from the earliest times to the present day. It looks at the related legislation in force in each period and how it has changed in line with the evolution of society and women's achievements. It exposes the different forms of domestic violence, emphasising psychological violence, which has only recently been included in Brazilian legislation through the Maria da Penha Law. In this sense, it analyses how psychological violence occurs, associating it with the profile of the victims and the aggressors, and also seeks to present protective measures provided for in the law that can not only alleviate, but in many cases curb its occurrence.

Ângela Teresinha Rambo graduated in Law from the Universidade Regional do Noroeste do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul (2011). She passed the OAB/RS Exam (2011) and has worked as a lawyer since completing the course. Specialised in Civil Procedural Law at FEMA (2017). Works as a Civil and Family Judicial Mediator trained by the TJRS (2013).
