This book analyzes the individual factors and those related to the socio-cultural and legal environment that favor the development of the uxoricide phenomenon in Abidjan. Indeed, uxoricide, commonly referred to as a crime of passion, is the murder of a woman by a person with whom she shares a romantic relationship. How can a love relationship lead to murder? This is the paradox that we are trying to understand. Thus, we conducted a clinical interview and administered a psychological test inspired by the DSM IV to 10 cases of uxoricides that we observed at the Maison d'Arrêt et de Correction d'Abidjan (MACA). We found that half of these cases were not related to possessive jealousy, which confirms that uxoricide is not only a crime of passion. Factors related to various behavioral disorders and the life course of the cases studied explain this phenomenon. Moreover, there are no specific laws on domestic violence, which is socially tolerated.
