An exposed pulp, either by degeneration of dentinal structures by caries or trauma will tend to initiate protective mechanisms which are, a decrease in dentinal permeability, formation of tertiary dentin and, an inflammatory and immune reaction. There is a symbiotic relation between dentin and the pulp and hence management of exposed pulp, can be accomplished by pulp capping procedure. The objective of all vital pulp treatment strategies is to create a state that enables the formation of a hard tissue barrier and the recovery of tissue, preserving the functionality and therefore ensuring that a vital tooth remains in the oral cavity long-term.
