Pyrimidine and its derivatives have been studied for over a century due to a variety of important chemical and biological applications. A number of heterocylic compounds fused with pyrimidines are known for their varied biological activities. They have been reported as antibacterial, antiviral and anti-tumor agents etc. In recent years, microwave irradiation using commercial scientific ovens has been rapidly increased for optimization and acceleration of organic synthesis under solvent free conditions. It has been reported for the variety of reactions such as synthesis of heterocycles and polymers because of advantages such as reduction in reaction time, improved energy utilization, potential for lower processing temperature and improved product uniformity. The synthesis of number of different pyrimidines has been successfully carried out with the said technique. The structures were confirmed on the basis of spectral data & subjected to computer programme PASS, for QSAR study. The book is highly significant for the researchers and students of synthetic organic, heterocyclic, pharmaceutical & medicinal chemistry as well as computational & combinatorial chemistry.
