This book reveals factors affecting the decision to select delivery care attendant and place of delivery in seven villages located in Chirano and Bekwai subdistricts in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai administrative district of the western region in Ghana. The most paramount factors for the use of Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) and/or home delivery are: economic and pragmatic reasons, difficult access to health care personnel and facilities, fear of surgery and the inconvenience of labour positioning at the health centre, clinic or hospital, and inappropriate attitude of health workers. The services of trained birth attendants during childbirth or an institutional delivery are however, perceived important by some community members only during obstetric complications.
