Civil construction, among the most diverse activities performed by man, is one of the most degrading to the environment. Because of this, companies began to suffer pressure from governments and society to invest in means of production less impactful. One way to establish environmental commitment within the company is to implement the environmental management system, which consists of the system responsible for the control of environmental aspects and impacts, represented by an area able to prove the environmental performance, develop continuously and make it remain present in the routine of the construction company the environmental goals and objectives that must be followed. It is a form imposed by ISO 14001 of process standardization. The objective of this work is to analyze the process of acquiring ISO 14001 certification, presenting the main requirements, according to the literature review, which act as facilitators for construction companies.
