The quality of health related services and its continuous improvement have become fundamental concerns across health care facilities worldwide, including the surgical care. With the increasingly demanding patients and the overall shift towards patient-centred care, the importance of monitoring patients' perceptions, expectations and experiences cannot be underestimated. We focused on identifying possible deficiencies in provided surgical care that influence patient satisfaction and perceived quality of services received. The identified deficiencies in the surgical health care are mostly preventable since they are related primarily to health staff's communication with patients, but also to such essential hygienic aspects as hand-washing. It is important to bear in mind that patients perceive these details. We live in a society where patients' demands as well as litigations are increasing, so these deficiencies should be corrected as soon as possible.
