The Warsaw Metro is a rapid transit system serving the city of Warsaw, the capital of Poland. It consists of a single north-south line that links central Warsaw with its densely populated northern and southern suburbs. The first section was opened in 1995, then gradually extended until it reached full planned length in October 2008. In the near future another two stations omitted during construction will be added. The contract for building the initial section of the second, east-west line was signed on October 28, 2009, with construction scheduled to begin in 2010 and finish in 2013.
