Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Raccoon eyes (also known in the UK as panda eyes) or periorbital ecchymosis is a sign of basal skull fracture. It results from blood from skull fracture tracking down into the soft tissue around the eyes. Raccoon eyes may also be a sign of disseminated neuroblastoma or amyloidosis. It can also be a side effect of using cocaine. In medical terminology, Battle''s sign, also mastoid ecchymosis, is an indication of fracture of the base of the posterior portion of the skull, and may suggest underlying brain trauma. Battle''s sign consists of bruising over the mastoid process, as a result of extravasation of blood along the path of the posterior auricular artery. The sign is named after William Henry Battle.
