High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Rachid Yazami is a graduate from the Institut National Polytechnique de Grenoble (INPG) in 1978, where he took a Ph. D. degree in 1985. His research project included a study of graphite intercalation compounds for lithium battery application. The same year he joined le Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) as a research associate. He eventually was promoted a Research Director (Professor)in 1998. In 1980 Dr. Yazami discovered the reversible intercalation of lithium into graphite in an electrochemical cell using a polymer electrolyte. Later this discovery led to the lithium-graphite anode now days used in commercial lithium ion batteries an over $7B/year business. Dr. Yazami also worked on other forms of graphite materials for cathode application in lithium batteries, including graphite oxide and graphite fluoride.
