She ran for and lost the election for the town council in South Windsor, Connecticut under the Republican Party ticket in 2009. She is the chair of Beta Gamma Sigma, an international honor society for business students and has been featured twice on the Barney School of Business publication. Khanna has been a resident of South Windsor for the past 20 years. She did her schooling from Modern School, New Delhi whose list of distinguished former pupils include former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and is often described as the most famous private school in India.
