Even though she was born to the first wife of Sadasivam she learned music from her step mother M.S. Subbulakshmi. Viswanathan accompanied M. S. Subbulakshmi for more than 50 years . She sang with M.S.Subbulakshmi in United Nations concert which is considered as a milestone in M.S.Subbulakshmi's life. With M.S.Subbulakshmi, Viswanathan gave the inaugural concert of the Festival of India in London in 1982, which was attended by the Prince of Wales, Prince Charles, who stayed until the end of the programme. In 1987, along with M.S.Subbulakshmi, she gave the inaugural concert of the Festival of India at the Kremlin in Moscow in the presence of the Prime Minister of India and the USSR. She stopped participating with MS due to her own illness.
